Heel Pain / Foot Pain

Achilles Tendonitis

Achilles tendonitis, also spelled Achilles tendinitis, is a condition in which the tendonous cord running from the calf muscles to the heal bone gets irritated and inflamed, making walking extremely painful in some cases. This is a very common condition in athletes but is a little more concerning in non-athletes due to its association with some systemic diseases. Treatment involves identifying the exact cause of the tendonitis, restoring normal ankle mechanics, identifying outside irritants, and reducing inflammation. Anti inflammatory injections, such as cortisone shots, are not recommended due to the increase in risk of complete tendon rupture.

Plantar Fascitis

Plantar fasciitis is a very uncomfortable condition that is the result of chronic sprains and contracture of a band of fibrous tissue on the bottom of the feet called the plantar fascia. This condition makes its excruciating for sufferers to bare weight first thing in the morning or after sitting for a prolonged period of time. The key to successful treatment of this condition is to remove the scar tissue and contractured fibers that have formed over the months or years this condition has been developing (see Graston Therapy). Many patients notice significant improvement after just one treatment.

Mortons Neuroma

A neuroma is a benign growth of nerve cells. A Morton’s neuroma refers to a neural growth in between the long bones of the feet. People who suffer from this condition usually describe that they feel like they have a pebble in their shoe and occasionally feel a sharp stab or pop when walking. Although true treatment of a Morton’s neuroma requires surgical extraction, Chiropractic therapy can help alleviate symptoms caused by this condition.

Severs Disease

Severs Disease is a painful heal condition suffered by physically active adolescent children. It is caused by excessive muscle pulling on the growth plate of the calcaneus, resulting in a very tender heal. The application of therapy along with activity modification improves healing time drastically.

Metatarsalgia

Metatarsals are the long bones of the feet that the toes are attached to. Metatarsalgia is a condition in which the head of these bones get bruised. Most people who suffer from this condition either acquired it through direct trauma, or repetitive stress to a biomechanically flawed foot. Treatment involves identifying and restoring proper foot mechanics as well as reducing inflammation.
