Scoliosis

An abnormal spinal curvature to the right or the left of midline is referred to as scoliosis. There are many different causes for the development of scoliosis. In adolescence, most develop idiopathically (“unknown cause”), but it is important to have a good physician rule out more serious causes such as a spinal cord tumor. The goal of treating scoliosis usually aims at stopping its progression. External spinal bracing has been proven most effective in doing this. Chiropractic therapy is effective in reducing the symptoms patients with scoliosis may experience. The combination of chiropractic therapy, specifically designed home exercises and stretches, as well as spinal bracing significantly reduces the risk of progression. Surgery should be a last resort only for those with severe cases.
